More Ruger American news

Now that the cat is out of the bag, there are several reviews appearing on the internet, mostly videos. One thing I noticed is ejection pattern being a bit different especially during the first few rounds of rapid firing. It could be a mistake, or maybe it has some kinks that needs to be worked out. At this point SR series doesn't seem to be scheduled to be phased out to make room for this pistol.

Here's a video intended for Ruger's sales training

GNB: Vicksers Guide: 1911

Larry Vickers published this guide some time ago, intended as a coffee table book - beautiful photographs and short descriptions, suppose to be a light reading while enjoying your coffee.

There are plenty of books about birth and adoption of 1911 by U.S. Army, and its numerous variants, but LAV's 1911 guide isn't about that. It shows some of his prized possessions as well as some from Ken Hackathorn and Rob Leatham's. Most of the collections feature rare 1911s from various gunsmiths.

It also is a snapshot of how 1911 evolved from about 1980s to current. History of various gunsmiths' works in last few decades has been relegated to memories of people who lived at the time, with little comprehensive documentation.

This guide features works of Pachmayr, Swenson and other gunsmiths of the era, as well as the current ones like Burton. It shows various agency models as well.

Small changes over the time can be hard to trace, but readers can get the idea of how things evolved when reading this. For people who are not in to details of 1911s, this would be just a photobook with various 1911s. However, those who like to look at details of a 1911, it can be an interesting guide to see how things evolved in last 30-40 years.

EOTech and Aimpoint news

Sometime ago, Soldier Systems reported that USSOCOM found problems with EOTechs. In extreme temperature, the reticle would lose its zero. Now, Soldier Systems Daily is reporting that US Government is suing L3 Communications for failure to disclose test results that demonstrated this problem.

Update: Soldier Systems have update on the settlement L3 Communications made with US government. The accusation is pretty damning, with EOTech known flaws for many years yet not informing DoD as contract required.

On the other hand, Aimpoint Micro T-2 is now adopted by the FBI HRT since July. FBI's another unit, Defensive Systems Unit will use H-2. H-2 is not out on commercial market, but it will be a more economical version of T-2 without NV capability.

MAC tries out 4 defensive ammunitions using ballistic gels and how it performs against some barriers.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0piGeTVMZWs

This test should be taken with some grain of salt. There are studies done under better and more controlled manner. Furthermore, those studies indicate that permanent cavity is more important than temporary cavity(or stretched). Whie it is impressive to see temporary cavities, the importance goes to permanent cavity

The bulletproof vest test at the end did not mention that +P+ rounds are closer to .357 magnum rounds which is beyond what Level IIA armor is rated for. So there is no surprise that the +P+ would penetrate.
