In 2013, Department of Justice hit Defense Distributed with ITAR for posting 3D printed gun design. Second Amendment Foundation fought with Defense Distributed and announced they reached a settlement.

-DOJ acknowledges that non-automatic firearms up to .50 cal are not inherently militaristic in nature.

VEPR banned from importation

The Firearm Blog is reporting that in the most recent updated sanction list included VEPR's maker Molot-Oruzhie. The sanction was instituted since Russian-Ukranian conflict and Kalashnikov Concern was one of companies that were originally on the list as well.

Most of Cleveland's new gun laws found unconstitutional

On Thursday, Ohio 8th District Court of Appeals found most of new Cleveland's gun laws enacted in 2015 to be unconstitutional. State law prohibits gun laws more strict than the state law.

The two laws that survived are ones regarding transfer of firearms to intoxicated person, and prohibition on leaving a gun where it can be accessed by minors.

Magazine capacity ban challenged in California

The Calguns Foundation, the Firearms Policy Coalition, the Firearms Policy Foundation and the Second Amendment Foundation teamed up to file a lawsuit against California over the current 10 round limit. The most current law prohibits grandfathered magazines, and that is the law challenged.

Lawsuit filed against CA AWB ban

NRA and CRPA(California Rifle and Pistol Association) filed a lawsuit challenging California's Assault Weapons Control Act (AWCA). This lawsuit is in response to law signed in by Governor Jerry Brown in 2016. It also challenges 4 other laws in California including 10 round ban.

ATF clarifies stance on arm brace again

According to SB tactical, ATF announced clarification of the shouldering interpretation that was made in 2015.

SB Tactical makes the SIG Arm Brace and the letter covers what SB Tactical makes. At this point, it doesn't cover other companys' similar product.

2016 was the best selling year

Guns.com looked at numbers from NICS check and with 27.4 million checks, it is very likely the best selling year. Of course some checks are not sales related, but with increasing number of checks, it is reasonable to assume the number of sales increase as well.

North Dakota passes Constitutional carry

North Dakota passed the constitutional carry law. As long as a person holds North Dakota drivers license or ID card for over a year and be eligible for Class 2 firearms license

EOTech class action lawsuit claim form

L-3 Communications was sued for EOTech problems and Andrew Tyler decided to bring a class action lawsuit instead of utilizing the refund program. The lawsuit resulted in a propsed settlement.

Those who already got the refund from EOTech may be entitled to a $22.50 voucher towards the purchase of a new EOTech product.

Those who submitted theirs for refund but has not received a refund gets the purchase price up to the MSRP, plus shipping, $22.50 voucher like above

Those who wants to keep their EOTech will get $25-50 cash benefit or a $100 voucher for EOTech product.

ATF decides Dead Air Wipes as silencer parts

ATF decided that Dead Air Armament's wipes in Ghost M silencer is considered as a silencer. In the past, ATF determined that disposable materials are not, allowing suppressor owners to dispose such parts.

New Hampshire becomes constitutional carry state

New Hampshire Governor signed the bill, making the state the 11th one getting rid of concleaed weapon permit. Anyone not prohibited by law can carry without a permit.

ATF looking at reducing regulations

Washington Post reported that Associate Deputy Director (Chief Operating Officer) Ronald B. Turk authored a white paper recommending changes and reduction of firearm regulations.

Here's the list or recommendations compiled by JF, via Soldier Systems Daily

1. New Federal Firearms Licensees (FFL) Dealing Exclusively at Gun Shows (or internet)
2. Creating a better process to approve pending requests for AP Ammo from manufacturers
3. Importing Surplus Firearms from Foreign Countries
4. Variances for SOTs to transfer Post-1986 machine guns without Demo Letters
5. Stabilizing Brace, creating a more consistent ruling
6. Commission a study on “Sporting Purposes” to comply with modern needs
7. Create a database of previous ATF rulings
8. “Legalizing” Silencers, citing expense of regulation. Change definition on “Silencer Parts”
9. Interstate Sale of Firearms at Gun shows
10. Destructive Devices, distinguishing between launcher and munitions
11 & 12. Demand letters to FFLs involving guns used in crimes
13. Changing requirement of FFL recording keeping from 20 years to indefinite
14. Allowing greater use of NICS by FFLs
15. Requiring ATF director to be confirmed by Senate
16. Reviewing a long list of Regs for Removal/Amendment

Hearing Protection Act reintroduced

Rep. Jeff Duncan (SC-03) and Rep. John Carter (TX-31) reintroduced Hearing Protection Act, a bill that would move suppressors from being a NFA item to an item that has to go through NICS background check.
