Safety should be everyone's priority

London Bridge Action Shooters of Lake Havasu City, AZ at the Lake Havasu City Sportsman Club became the center of competition shooting world this weekend with this video going viral on Sunday morning.

https://youtu.be/Y8tft9tBQ0g?t=22s

Appreantly RO was not aware of someone down range, and neither was the shooter or anyone else for that matter. It can be a bit difficult to see through solid walls but a little safety check before the shooter is allowed to make ready could have saved this close call.

Primary fault lies with the RO but there were other people around, and it would have been better if someone took a moment to care about what is going on. Also, the brass collector should have known better than to loiter around like that.

It takes just one mistake to have a tragedy and this could have been one. There were multiple things that did not go well here, and it once again reminds people that having situational awarenesss and strict adherence to safety procedures is important.

Glock 43

Rumors of a single-stack 9mm Glock has been floating around and now it is somewhat official. Glock 43 is the single-stack 9mm that seems to be made in similar length as the G26. According to the photo of (RECOIL) magazine it has capacity of 6 rounds and MSRP of $580. Price will probably come down to high $400s after initial rush is over, but it is a bit higher than its competitors.

After years of delay Glock is finally getting out the pistol its fans want, but the question is whether it will significantly capture the market. In last 5-6 years demand for CCW pistol has grown and Ruger(LCP), S&W(M&P Shield) and Springfield Armory(XD-s) has been quick to respond to change in demand.

Glock's first move was to release G42 chambered in .380 acp and slightly over 1 year later release G43. Some have suspected that this was all part of Glocks strategy to maximize gun sales. If G43 was sold before G42 it wouldn't help with sale of G42.

Whatever the reason is, the delay doesn't seem to favor Glock in the long term. By delaying development of G43, Glock lost chance to take a strong foothold of the market. There is some merit to counter argument that Glock can still capture some market share due to its (supposed) better quality,  but it will not be as easy as a few years ago when there were less competitions.

It is certainly great to see more choices on the market as a consumer, but it certainly raises question about Glock's decision being the best one or not.

According to the Soldier Systems Daily, US Army is looking for a way to improve M4A1, named M4A1-Plus(M4A1+)

It is looking for a system that will perform better than the current issue rifle instead of looking for individual components. Furthremore it is being sought from commercial off-the-shelf parts.

Some of the noticable points are

  • Free-float rail system with low-profile gas block in Coyote color
  • Improved back-up sights
  • Improved flash suppressor

Tussey's 6 caliber 1911 platform

Terry Tussey has been working on a 1911 platform that is capable of shooting 6 different calibers just by changing out slide. Calibers are .22LR, .38 Spl, 9mm, .40S&W, .357 SIG, and .45 ACP

This is a great idea for restrictive places such as Europe. It also is a great idea for target shooters who want same trigger feel for different calibers. It does use different springs

Built on Caspian frame, one caliber is $4,999. Each additional caliber costs $500, with additional slides/barrels would run about $1200

Ammo Vending Machine

Beaver Valley Rifle & Pistol Club has an ammo vending machine.

This news came out after the owner Sam Piccinini started his campaign to be Beaver County Sheriff. The vending machine is located in a private club, requiring key access and only accepts credit cards. Federal law restricts sale of rifle ammunition to those 18 or over and handgun ammunition to 21 or over. However, both the club and Piccinini had lawyers go through laws and decided it was not prohibited, similar to cigarette machines in VFW
