Glock 41 and 42 is coming out

There has been rumors that Glock is coming out with new models and there is more substantial evidence. Here is Glock's ad that's been going around.

Some people adjusted brightness and found a G26 sized gun without finger grooves.

Also, mrat from Glocktalk posted on Oct. 26th that his rep said, "Glock would be coming out with a single stack fullsize .45acp and a single stack .380 in 2014."

Furthermore, Sportsmans Depot posted description of Glock 42. While no further description is given, it seems like it will cost about $412.99

Glock 41 is likely to be a Gen 4 5.3" barrel 13 round. This size is like Glock 34/35. Unfortunately the ad also (incorrectly) states that it will be 15 lbs. Price will be $645.99

According to shooter521 of IN Gun owners, Glock 41 will be,

SKU numbers are PG4130101 and PG4130103, which indicate adjustable sights, and a low-cap and hi-cap version...[snip]...my official guess is that the new Glock Model 41 is going to be an optics-ready, competition-oriented pistol to compete with the S&W M&P CORE and FNH-USA FNX-45 Tactical

It is going to be interesting as Glock fans were asking for a single stack 9mm to compete against S&W M&P and Springfield Armory's XD-s. Glock 28(.380 acp) has been available for sometime, but due to import restriction points they were not available in US. Perhaps G42 is an updated version made in USA(no import points to worry about)

HK293(Civilian G36) coming to US

HKPro.com has a thread going on about HK293, a civlian version(semi-auto with different chamber design?) of G36. It will be named HK243 in EU

HK293 looks more like the actual G36 than the SL8, and has following features
Quad rail system
STANAG magazine system(AR mags can be used)
4 different types of stocks according to The Firearm Blog

They will come in 'K', 'C', 'S', and 'L' versions.

The HKPro.com thread also contains some other photos of classic HK rifles as well as P30 compressed air gun

GNB: Blind obsession with numbers

One of the best ways to verify or evaluate is to look at numbers. Instead of relying on theoretical battle, one can perform an experiment and see what the data tells us. In shooting sports, there are several data we can look at, such as using number of rounds, time it took to shoot certain drills.

But there are times when reliance on numbers go beyond the realm of rationality and wander in to obsession.

Here are some common obsessions observed over the years

1. Round count - It is good to know how many were used, but just because an instructor has higher round count doesn't necessarilly mean it is better. An efficient instructor can teach more with less. An incompetent instructor may rely on round count to cover his lack of material.

There was a case where someone asked for refund from a former Navy SEAL instructor just because the first day of class had low round count. Incidently, it was revealed that the person(s) were from a well-ridiculed local training outfit.

No one would doubt usefulness and quality of that instructor, but someone thought it was not up to the standard because of low round count.

2. Student to instructor ratio - Having a low student to instructor ratio is good because instructors can give more individualized attentions. But there is no magical or critical number that should not be crossed in any sense.

For basic shooting class, it can be argued that low student to instructor ratio is important to have a good foundation. However, there are times when students are keyed-in individuals who can absorb without instructor personally guiding them though each steps. In that case a high ratio is not necessarily bad.

Some people seem to be bent on not going over certain ratio - say 15 to 1 - but would having one more person in the class dramatically affect quality of instruction? Haveing 40 to 1 would be bad but 16 to 1 or 20 to 1 may not be necesarily bad depending situations.

3. Time and score - These two are important to improve one's ability, but some people obsess to point of thinking that if they get certain score or time they are better than others. A fraction of a second difference doesn't may not mean much as shooter's performance can be affected by daily condition. Yet some people decided to blindly believe that they are superior because they can perform some drill faster.

While measures of performance is important, there is no need to blindly use it as an absolute rule.

There are reasons why we use numbers. However blind trust in them is not a healthy way to assess everything. Think of the individual picture, what it means in the context, and use it as a measure, not as a judgement.

Surefire P3X Fury Tactical review

Surefire recently announced a new light, P3X, that emits 1,000 lumens. While there has been a number of flashlights that offered near 1000 lumens or more they required many batteries or rechargeable battery built in to them. P3X seems to have jumped over that hurdle.

As the name might suggest this light is related to P2X Fury. Think of this as larger version. This is the unique point about this light - using three CR123A batteries, P3X Fury allows easy maintenance as well as use.

For the review, a P3X Fury Tactical was used. This is a single output light with momentary switch. P3X Fury has 2 stages(clickable tail cap, momentary) and 2 output levels(15 lumens, 1,000 lumens)

When you get one it comes in efficient packaging like other Surefire handheld lights. Some of the specifications are listed such as 7.2oz weight, length of 6.6 inches, 1000 lumens and 1.5 hour running time.
