TrackingPoint can be hacked

WIRED has an article of two security experts who managed to hack TrackingPoint system.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BJPCYdjrNWs

Article: http://www.wired.com/2015/07/hackers-can-disable-sniper-rifleor-change-target/

Using WiFi, hackers gained root level control and vary the weight of bullet to change trajectory. In one instance, they were able to shoot target 2.5 feet to side. Even more shockingly, it could render the rifle useless by keeping the rifle unfirable.(Civilian version has this feature).

Furthermore, there are discussions of other theoretical hacks involving auxiliary devices such as smartphones, as well as subtle change to calculating paramters to make it miss just a little.

While enemy would not walk into WiFi range with an electronic device, it shows complex electronics can pose problems.

Several major commands of the USMC recommended changing out M16s for M4s. The M4 has been preferred for its weight reduction, improved mobility around closed quarters as well as vehicles, and easier to adjust for body armor.

Swiss Prototype Pistols: P44/8 and W+F Bern P43

Ian got to look at the two protoype pistols for Swiss military

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jB3OCTxbGR4

According to the Youtube descprtion,

These are both mechanically Browning short-recoil tilting barrel pistols, but they do show some significant differences, particularly in the trigger mechanisms. The P44 was developed from Charles Petter's MAS 35A pistol adopted by the French, and it would go on to become the P47 (aka SIG P210) and the winner of the Swiss handgun trials.

From: Forgotten Weapons

2-inch barrel AR

Here's a fun little AR-15. The barrel is merely 2 inches long and that means the tip of the bullet ends up exposed when chambered. There is no telling what the ballistics will be(only guess it will be quite weak compared to regular use), but it is definitely a fun little and a bit silly gun

Carry Opitcs provisionally approved for USPSA

USPSA has provisionally approved the new division. This will be limited to Level 1 matches until Jan 1, 2016

There has been some push for the new division as it allows production guns to use red dot sights without getting identified as a Limited gun. Some manufacturers has been coming out with factory Optic ready guns, such as S&W or Glock.

It will be interesting to see how this goes.

India to adopt indegenous rifle to replace INSAS

According to The Firearm Blog, India is going to replace its INSAS rifle with another indegenous rifle called 'Excalibur'. It still looks like an AK derivative. Photo is at the link.

http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2015/07/07/india-to-adopt-indigenous-rifle-design-to-replace-troubled-insas/

INSAS has more or less been a failure to the point where Indian troops in 'red zone' (in conflict areas) will be getting alternatives. That is unrelated to this procurement but serves as another example of INSAS's failure.

India recently solicited foreign firearms companies to submit their proposal for the INSAS replacement, but cancelled the competition and just went with this new gun.
