While Russians are replacing PKM with PKP Pecheneg, they are also looking for lighter version using 5.45mm cartridges and set out a proposal. The name is Kord-5.45, and is designed with inputs from Russian special forces.
The gun is to have 900mm or shorter barrel length, and weigh no more than 7kg. It must take in ammo belts as well as AK-74 magazines
