Beretta is realeasing enhanced version of M9 pistol called M9A3. The new version has some material and design changes. Some of the changes include,
-a thin grip with a removable, modular wrap-around grip
-MIL-STD-1913 accessory rail
-removable front and rear tritium sights
-extended and threaded barrel for suppressor use
-17-round sand resistant magazine
The pistol will be available in Q2 of 2015.
It looks like Beretta is feeling the heat from US military's attempts to look for a replacement pistol, and is trying to emulate the situation where competitors were deemed to provide no significant addition to existing equipment.
