Steel target safety

Shooting Wire reposted an article on how far shooter should be from steel target.

From personal experience 10 yards seems to be safe distance for pistol caliber using FMJ ammunition, while 25 yards seems to be minimum for carbines. It is assumed that the steel targets do not have dimples.
