Firearm news from USACOM sniper competition

A few interesting tid bits came out today from Soldier Systems

1. USSOCOM adopts 6.5 Creedmoor
Military has been looking at calibers that would enhance shooting and there were several candidates. USSOCOM ran its own evaluation and decided on 6.5 Creedmoor over 260 Remington. Both performed just about the same but 6.5 CM had more room for various loads.

2. Knight's Armaments LMG has been updated. This was one of two guns used to evaluate Intermediate Caliber.

224 Valkyrie

Savage Arms introduced a new AR rifle chambered in .224 Valkyrie, developed by Federal Ammunition. The caliber is geared for shooting 1300 yards and more and is based on 6.8 SPC case necked down to .224 caliber. It tries to be like 6.5 CreedMoor with shorter case and less recoil.

MAC also covered this round with 22plinkster

40 Caliber Pistol Cartridge Testing

This is an old video made by Federal Law Enforcement Training Center(FLETC) regarding the (then new) .40 S&W

Back then, .40 S&W was all the rage after FBI's Miami shootout as it offered better penetrations than 9mm while having more capacity than .45 ACP.

After two decades, things are now turning around and 9mm is back in the game.
