GNB: Looking in to the Glock ejection problem

For last 1 year or so, there has been reports of Glock 9mm handguns having ejection problems. This started with Gen4 Glock 19 and started to appear in Gen3 Glocks. While not all Glocks were exhibiting such problem, there has been enough to the point where after market parts makers are trying to solve problems.

What is the problem?
The problem is that the ejected casing will fly straight back to the shooter's forehead or to top of head instead of to the side. This could result in casing falling in to back of the shirt or hitting the shooter in the face.

Here's a video from TWANGnBANG who got hit with the problem when he started making video to disprove the problem.

IDPA Carolina cup stats

IDPA blog posted statistics from 2012 Carolina cup. Glocks and S&W were the most used guns with Glock at $35.7%, S&W at 34.9%. Striker-fired pistols accounted for 62.7%

In a separate question, 31.8% said they primarily carry Glocks for CCW, 23.6% S&W.

Paul Erhardt has an interesting analysis of this phenomenon. He credits GSSF program for making coverts out of a lot of 1911 users.

GNB: MagBoot review

The ITW Military Products MagBoot is designed to provide enhanced grip and stability for most AR/M4 magazines. I tried it on GI and Magpul magazines and it fits great. It is designed to be sip resistant in tough environmental and gloved hand operations. It adds only 1.5 oz to the weight of the magazine.

I was very skeptical when I first saw it. Magazines are not hard to come by and wondered if this product is necessary. But after using it a few times, there were some  pros.

1. It really grips well. Hard to drop it unintentionally
2. Less noisy when magazine is dropped
3. Protects magazine from damages. This worked very well with airsoft GBB magazines which are more expensive than the real magazines.

However, there are cons, too
1. Price $8 is a bit high relative to price of a AR magazine
2. Some magazine pouches cannot fit them. I had difficulty putting them in some of my magazine pouches.

MagBoot comes in Tan, Coyote Brown, Flat Dark Earth (FDE) and Foliage Green, offering IR compliance to provide better signature management and match multiple camo patterns.

Caracal recall

Caracal is recalling its pistol since it may fire when dropped.

CARACAL F AND C PISTOL SAFETY WARNING AND RECALL NOTICE

Caracal USA has determined a potential condition of the trigger unit in a very limited number of Caracal F and C pistols that could possibly allow the pistol to fire when dropped onto a hard surface with a round in the chamber. Although Caracal USA has not received any reports of injuries, it is initiating this voluntary recall to protect the safety of its customers because of the remote possibility of an unintentional discharge occurring.

The affected Caracal pistols have serial numbers that begin with B, C, F, L, or M. If your pistol's serial number begins with one of these letters, please follow the following steps.

Only the Caracal F and C pistols with the serial numbers identified above are affected by this recall. If your pistol has a different serial number, it is not subject to the recall.

If you own a Caracal F or C pistol with a serial number identified as being affected by this recall, please do not load or fire your Caracal F or C pistol and contact us immediately to arrange to have the trigger unit replaced, completely free of charge, using the following steps:

Step 1 - Contact us at 205-655-7050 (Monday-Friday 8-5 Central Standard Time), or at info@caracal-usa.com and provide the model and serial number of your pistol.

Step 2 - After contacting us, we will send you a prepaid overnight shipping box with instructions so that you can return your pistol to us, free of charge.

Step 3 - Your firearm will be returned as quickly and efficiently as possible.

We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause, and to thank you for your patience and cooperation, we will send you a free magazine when we return your pistol to you.

For more information, you may visit www.caracal-usa.com or call Caracal USA at 205-655-7050

AR: SIG Enhanced ACP review

American Rifleman reviewed SIG's Enhanced ACP platform that turns pistol in to carbines. Out of 3 models(Standard, Enhanced, LE), they looked at Enhanced, which comes with  SIG SAUER Mini Red Dot Sight, a quick detachable sling swivel, and a single point bungee sling.

Because it comes with a sling and not a buttstock it is not subjected to federal law. Shooter should use tension of sling to get better accuracy.

American Rifleman noted that the platform allows more options for shooting, but also noted some shortcomings like charging handle being heavy.
